South African gospel group Omega Circle has released a deeply moving new EP, “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother,” a heartfelt collection of worship songs inspired by loss, faith, and the enduring bond between parent and child.
The project was born from a profoundly personal place. Earlier this year, the songwriter reflected on the fact that it has been 20 years since his mother passed away, a realization that sparked a wave of inspiration. “Losing a mother is perhaps one of the hardest things one will experience,” he shares. “It shakes your foundation and challenges your trust in the world. Yet in that emptiness, I found myself leaning into God, trusting Him to guide me.”
The central theme of the EP is trust, captured in the recurring phrase “Ndithembe kuwe,” meaning “I trust in You.”Each song reflects a journey of faith and remembrance, imagining the moments he could have shared with his mother — and even with the grandchildren she never met.
The creative process was both intimate and spontaneous. Some songs were written in the quiet of the early morning hours, while others emerged during unexpected, reflective moments throughout the day. Every song on the EP was written specifically for this project, with one exception: a reimagined version of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, which opens the EP and sets the tone for the spiritual journey ahead.
“This EP is a tribute to the woman who taught me how to love myself and how to love God,” Omega Circle says. “Worship music becomes a bridge, connecting us to memories and a warmth we can no longer experience physically.”
“Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother” offers listeners a moving spiritual experience, transforming grief into praise and memory into song. It is now available on major streaming platforms:
